Project Objective

Organization of the congress for young scientists: "15th Warsaw International Medical Congress for Young Scientists" - a task financed under Agreement 579/P-DUN / 2019 from the funds of the Minister of Science and Higher Education allocated to activities promoting science

15th Warsaw International Medical Congress is the fifteenth jubilee edition of the international conference for Young Scientists organized by the Student Scientific Society of the Medical University of Warsaw. This year it will be held on May 9-12, 2019 at the Didactic Center of the Medical University of Warsaw at 2a Trojdena St.

This conference aims to enable young scientists from around the world to present the results of their research, broaden their knowledge in the field of biomedical sciences, acquire new practical skills and provide broadly understood promotion of science. It is addressed to students of biomedical faculties, doctoral students as well as young doctors and scientists from around the world.

For years, we have been honored by the presence of world-class scientists from extremely diverse scientific fields with our presence who delivered their lecturers. Each of them is the best specialist in their field. For instance, during the 12th WIMC, we were honored by the presence of the Nobel Prize Winner in the field of Medicine - prof. Bert Sakmann. The 14th edition of the Congress was also unique, because we hosted prof. Robert Lefkowitz - Nobel Laureate in the field of chemistry.

Due to the growing interest of the participants in the lectures, this year we invited equally interesting figures from the world of science. Our invitation was accepted by such personalities as: prof. Olivier Kurzai (Germany), prof. Marta Kwiatkowska (Great Britain), Dr. Emilie Karafillakis (Great Britain), Dr. Nadine Haram (Great Britain), Prof. Bohdan Pomahac (USA), Dr. David Casarett (USA).

Last year, participants submitted a unique number of abstracts to the competition - 710 works from as many as 35 countries, including as far away as China, Ethiopia or even Canada. These works were presented at 24 scientific sessions. The Warsaw International Medical Congress is therefore a unique opportunity to present your scientific achievements to an experienced jury consisting of the most outstanding doctors in Poland. This year, a special guest was waiting for the participants of the Cardiology & Cardiosurgery session: prof. Jeffrey Michel from Texas A&M College of Medicine, who also sat on the Jury sharing his experience with young medical adepts. It is also an ideal opportunity to gain experience in public speaking. In the previous year, reviews were made by as many as 259 reviewers with a PhD or higher. During the congress itself, the works were assessed in terms of content by nearly 190 members of the jury with the academic degree of habilitated doctor or higher. During this year's edition of the 15th WIMC, we are planning 29 scientific sessions. Each of the selected works will undergo a review process by at least 3 reviewers from various research centers. We expect that the group of reviewers will include over 320 scientists this year.

In addition, we intend to continue the tradition introduced three years ago - the winners of selected scientific sessions will enter the competition during the Plenary Session. The winner of the 14th WIMC conference received a cash prize of PLN 5,000, which allowed him to travel to any foreign conference. People who won the 2nd and 3rd place were given the opportunity to do an internship at the Karolinska Institutet in Sweden, under the supervision of prof. Kenny Rodriguez-Wallberg and at the Universitätsklinikum Münster in Germany under the supervision of prof. Malec. Taught with many years of experience, this year we plan to donate financial prizes not only to the Congress Winners, but also to the winners of the 2nd and 3rd place.

Currently, WIMC is an event known among students and young doctors all over Europe, and is also gaining popularity on other continents. In the last two years, we have established numerous partnership agreements with Congresses around the world. This is conducive to, among other things, the exchange of experiences, insights and ideas, but also often establishing interesting contacts. WIMC is a rapidly developing conference, gaining more and more publicity every year. It gives its participants many extremely valuable opportunities: broaden their scientific horizons, compete in the scientific field, acquire the latest medical knowledge.

As part of the event, very important topics in the field of public health are discussed, and the cooperation established with the World Health Summit, held regularly in Berlin, allows participants to learn about issues related to public health problems around the world.

Warsaw International Medical Congress for Young Scientists has numerous partner conferences - over 30 congresses from around the world. Thanks to this, we create an impressive network of scientific cooperation.

The 15th Warsaw International Medical Congress for Young Scientists consists of the following elements:

- scientific sessions in which participants present the results of their own research,

- expert lectures by outstanding lecturers from Poland and abroad,

- workshops during which participants acquire and improve practical and clinical skills,

- entertainment program - banquet, integration meeting, tours around Warsaw,

- startup competition - 10 young inventors will present the results of their work, the author of the best-rated idea will win a cash prize for the development of the idea.
