Project Objective

Co-financed from the State budget

Name of Programme: Implementation of investments related to scientific activity

Name of Task:  Implementation of the investment: "Interdisciplinary Laboratory of Advanced Techniques of Skin Research and Translational Medicine”.

Amount of funding: PLN 1,752,520

Short description of the task: the purchase of research equipment for the Interdisciplinary Laboratory of Advanced Techniques for Skin Examination and Translational Medicine will enable a more accurate observation of the physiological and pathological processes occurring in the skin related to aging and various disease states (autoimmune diseases, cancer, metabolic disorders). The research will be carried out using two complementary, state-of-the-art imaging methods: laser reflection scanning confocal microscopy (LRSCM) and laser Doppler measurement of vascular flow (LDF). The combination of these methods will allow for the provision of new information, among others on the processes occurring in chronic inflammatory skin diseases of autoimmune basis, the influence of genetic factors on the structure and development of skin cancers, the action of new molecules with anti-cancer or immunomodulatory properties. Researchers will also gain more detailed understanding of skin cancer predictors, response to treatment of chronic inflammatory skin diseases, wound healing and skin aging. The research results will be used, for example, to evaluate the effectiveness of new molecules with anti-cancer or immunomodulatory properties, as well as to create new types of dressings. In the long run, it will not only facilitate the treatment of patients, but will also translate into cooperation between the sphere of science and the economy.

Project Objective

Co-financed from the State budget

Name of Programme: Implementation of investments related to scientific activity

Name of Task: Implementation of investment: "Canon Aplio i800 Ultrasound”

Amount of funding: PLN 700,000

Short description of the task: the obtained funding will allow the purchase of the latest generation of the Canon Aplio I800 Prism Edition ultrasound machine. The Clinic conducts unique in the world, pioneering research into the volumetric assessment of blood flow in extracranial arteries using Doppler ultrasound. It is a new, so far unexplored, diagnostic direction of great scientific and clinical potential in the group of patients with carotid artery stenosis. Peripheral arterial disease (PAD) affects approximately 20% of the human population over the age of 60 and more than 50% after the age of 85, and with the aging of the population, its incidence will increase. It is currently believed that the degree of stenosis of the internal carotid artery is the strongest risk factor for ischemic stroke. The gold standard for assessing the degree of carotid stenosis is the measurement of the velocity of blood flowing through the stenosis using Doppler ultrasound. The innovation that distinguishes the Canon I800 Prism Edition system is the use of advanced artificial intelligence algorithms in the diagnosis of vascular diseases. In addition, the camera has technologies that allow you to obtain the highest quality and resolution images, which allows you to compare the images with the results of CT / MRI examinations. The obtained results have a chance to make a very significant contribution to the diagnosis and qualification for surgical treatment of patients with carotid artery stenosis, allowing for example the identification of asymptomatic patients.
