NAWA- call for applications under the Walczak Programme is open!
The Ministry of Health and the National Agency for International Exchange announce the call for applications under the third edition of the Walczak Programme. The participation in the programme is an opportunity for physician researchers to make internships lasting from 3 to 6 months in the best medical centres in the United States.
The following individuals may apply for participation in the Programme:

- scientists holding at least a doctoral degree who, at the moment of submitting their application, are employed based on an employment contract or a civil law contract, at a Polish HEI, scientific institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences, research institute, institute acting under the Łukasiewicz Scientific Network, international scientific institute or another entity whose core activities are scientific, conducted independently and without interruption and that holds a scientific category, or at a medical entity, or
- participants of doctoral schools (doctoral students), or
- other persons with the status of a doctoral student as confirmed by the entity conducting the doctoral education, or
- other persons who, at the moment of submitting their application, are employed by a Polish university or other HEIs, as set forth in Article 7 Paragraph 1 of the Law on higher education and science, and who have their doctoral thesis open (for no longer than 3 years on the date of submitting the Application),
holding an invitation from the Host Institution and documented academic pedigree, as mentioned in Chapter 2.6 of this announcement.
For Applicants employed at a different entity carrying out mainly scientific activity in an independent and continuous manner, as mentioned in Article 7 Paragraph 1 Item 8 of the Law on higher education and science, it is required that this institution hold a scientific category.
The following activities are eligible under the Programme:
1) conducting scientific research or devel-opment works which are key at a given career stage;
2) gaining new professional and scientific experience, becoming acquainted with good practices and new methods of work used in the Host Institution (job-shadowing);
3) increasing didactic competences (activ-ity for which additional points are granted under criterion 3 of the merit-based as-sessment);
4) gathering materials for a scientific pub-lication;
and additionally – being only comple-mentary for the above objectives – other forms of scientific or academic activity.
The Applicant shall submit a Project cov-ering one task or more tasks that they intend to accomplish during their visit to the foreign Host Institution, indicating their objectives and presenting their reasoning behind the choice of the Host Institution and research team for their planned activ-ities, as well as describing the benefits that the Project will bring, both to the sci-entist, as well as their parent entity. For Projects whose principal aim is to gather new professional experience, the Appli-cant is obliged to describe in detail the manner of implementing the Project and indicate whether it is possible for the Ap-plicant to acquire practical skills.
The programme provides funding for the scholarship for the period of the Project implementation in a foreign Host Institution in an amount of PLN 15,000 paid for each full month of stay in the said institution, as well as a one-off mobility allowance (lump-sum for travel expenses) in an amount of PLN 10,000.
The programme was commissioned to the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange by the Minister of Health pursuant to Article 2(5) of the Act on NAWA, who also secured funding for the aforementioned goal.
